RV pilot Bob Ellis scoops British and European RAEC air race Championships
On 26 and 27 September, Alderney hosted the culminating weekend of a ‘fantastic’ 2015 season of Royal Aero Club handicap air racing. The season saw 23 race teams compete for many historic trophies in aeroplanes ranging from Cessna 152s to homebuilt Vans RV-8S. Alderney is also the venue when the annual point system decides the British and European Champions as well as hosting the Schneider Trophy race, the final event of the sixteen-race season.
2015 Schneider Trophy was won by Jon Willis in his RV-6 and the Aurigny Air Services Trophy went to Bob Ellis, flying an RV-8. Bob Ellis was also crowned British Air Race Champion and European Air Race Champion. The Navigator of the Year award went to Ian Scarbrough, flying with pilot John Kelsall in an RV-7.
