RV pi­lot Bob El­lis scoops Bri­tish and Euro­pean RAEC air race Cham­pi­onships

On 26 and 27 Septem­ber, Alder­ney hosted the cul­mi­nat­ing week­end of a ‘fan­tas­tic’ 2015 sea­son of Royal Aero Club hand­i­cap air rac­ing. The sea­son saw 23 race teams com­pete for many his­toric tro­phies in aero­planes rang­ing from Cessna 152s to home­built Vans RV-8S. Alder­ney is also the venue when the an­nual point sys­tem de­cides the Bri­tish and Euro­pean Cham­pi­ons as well as host­ing the Schneider Tro­phy race, the fi­nal event of the six­teen-race sea­son.

2015 Schneider Tro­phy was won by Jon Wil­lis in his RV-6 and the Aurigny Air Ser­vices Tro­phy went to Bob El­lis, fly­ing an RV-8. Bob El­lis was also crowned Bri­tish Air Race Cham­pion and Euro­pean Air Race Cham­pion. The Nav­i­ga­tor of the Year award went to Ian Scar­brough, fly­ing with pi­lot John Kel­sall in an RV-7.
