Former Sikorsky President dies in P-51 Mustang crash
Jeff Pino, former President of Sikorsky Aircraft, was killed on 5 February when his P-51D Mustang Big Beautiful Doll crashed at Maricopa, about 35 miles south of Phoenix, Arizona. His friend and fellow pilot Nicholas Tramontano also died in the crash. The aircraft, which was almost totally destroyed on impact and by post-crash fire, had struck the ground in a near vertical attitude at high speed.
A former US Army helicopter pilot, Pino spent seventeen years with Bell Helicopter before joining Sikorsky in 2002 and becoming its President in 2006. He retired in 2012 and bought the Mustang in 2014.
