Auster/beagle/miles fly-in now at Redhill

Pilot - - FLIGHT TEST - Anne Hughes, Vintage Aircraft Club Events Co-ordinator

My letter in June’s Airmail reflected on Shoreham’s role in the history of aviation. The planned Auster, Beagle & Miles fly-in was designed to celebrate Shoreham’s place in aircraft design. It therefore came as a surprise to be informed that the event could not be held there as scheduled, despite having been booked in the autumn and widely advertised. It now emerges that a lack of ‘joined-up’ planning in Sussex had resulted in a double booking. To avoid the undoubted disappointment that cancellation would have caused, we decided to keep the date — 30 July — but change the venue and I am pleased to report that several airfields generously offered to save the day.

I would just like to remind readers that Redhill was chosen as the alternative. Not only is this a suitable location but there is a historical link for Miles aircraft. It is a pity that Brighton City Airport will miss out on this unique gathering.
