Pilot - - SPECIAL FEATURE - Jon Pivett, Burnham on Sea

I am just starting my PPL with a view to becoming a commercial pilot in the future. I have been obsessed with aviation for as long as I can remember. I have found a great club and instructor and I am having a whale of a time! I have always got my head in the training manuals and am flying as much as I can afford So far so good…

Unfortunately one thing that I am really struggling with are the costs involved in gaining the commercial licences, ratings, hours building etc. I am 33 and the sole earner of the household, with a wife, mortgage and two kids to support. I just cannot see a viable path, financially, to get there and I now realise I should have begun my journey years ago, before the financial responsibilities I now have!

I just wanted to ask yourselves and the wider aviation community, if there is any funding, or scholarships, or even any advice centres that are geared towards people in similar situations to myself? I have searched the web for answers but to no avail. I am very driven and determined enough to succeed and achieve my ambitions, but financially I just cannot realise my dream and I can feel it slipping away before I have even really got started. Any advice on this would be gratefully received!

Great work on the magazine guys, I am always waiting with bated breath for it to land on the doormat!
