Cloudster moves on

Pilot - - OLD TIMERS -

Rearwin Cloudster G-EVLE, the only example of the two-seat cabin biplane in the UK, was ferried from its long-time base at Popham to Henstridge by Clive Davidson with owner Will Gray on 20 December 2016. Originally built in 1939 in Kansas, Rearwin 8125 NC25403 was powered by a 120hp Ken-royce (Leblond) 7F radial engine. Melvyn Hiscock obtained it and registered it as G-BVLK in April 1994 at the start of a very long rebuild to flying condition. Nine years later, re-registered G-EVLE, it was moved to Popham for final assembly. Now powered by a Warner Scarab 145 it was flown for the first time by Stu Goldspink in March 2005. Sold to Will Gray in December 2015 the Cloudster’s cockpit was refurbished to complement the immaculate red exterior. Report & photo: Neil Wilson
