Pedal plane record set at Brook­lands

On Sun­day 15 Oc­to­ber the LAA Youth & Ed­u­ca­tion Sup­port (YES) team gath­ered 24 pedal-pow­ered air­craft at the Brook­lands Mu­seum, sited on the former mo­tor rac­ing cir­cuit and aero­drome. ‘We had three pedal planes from YES, four from from Brook­lands Mu­seum, eleven from the Joy­stick Club at White Waltham and six from Stow Maries Aero­drome, three of which were made by pupils from Basil­don Academy, Beauchamps High School, Bil­ler­icay School, Pass­mores Academy, Stew­ards Academy, West­cliffe High School for Boys and Wood­lands Sec­ondary School,’ says An­dre Faehn­drich of YES. ‘Thanks a mil­lion for ev­ery­one’s help in achiev­ing this lofty am­bi­tion to cre­ate a world record’ (num­ber of pedal planes in one lo­ca­tion - Ed). Ma­te­ri­als were pro­vided for chil­dren make their own ‘stomp rock­ets’ and YES dis­played its Build-a-plane 7 project — a three­quar­ter size Fokker Ein­decker from Saint Ro­nans Pri­mary School in Hawkhurst, Kent.
