Red red Robin
Glenn Curtiss’s first foray into the civil market was the 1928 Robin, a threeseat, high-wing monoplane. The comfort of a fully enclosed cabin added to the appeal of a remarkably versatile airframe. Air-to-air refuelled, Ole Miss flew non-stop for more than 27 days, while another performed more than 400 continuous slow rolls. G-BTYY was imported in 1991 but fell out of use and had been stored in a barn for twelve years before a new owner commissioned its restoration. Mice had eaten all the rib stitching and nested in the wing tips, but it is once again resplendent in its scarlet colour scheme.
