Birthday treat for TBM owner
Daher TBM 910 owner Dr John C Taylor, OBE, recently received a special birthday present: flying in formation with the Imperial War Museum’s 1939-built Spitfire 1a N3200. It was arranged by David Fabry, Chief Executive Officer of Flying Smart, the UK and Ireland TBM distributor from whom Dr Taylor bought his aircraft last year. It is his fifth TBM, having previously owned a TBM 700A, TBM 700C2, TBM 850 and TBM 900.
The flight also acknowledged Dr Taylor’s family connection with the Spitfire and the RAF. In WWII his father Eric developed the Taylor electrically-heated flight suit, gloves and boots for RAF bomber crews, and after-hours spent much of his time helping young men learn the basics of airmanship by flying gliders. Dr Taylor maintained the family aviation tradition by soloing in a glider at the age of sixteen. After 65 years of flying he has logged a total of more than 5,000 hours, including 2,000 in his TBMS.
