One of our own

Pilot - - NEW REGS -

Fifty years ago, in Pilot’s first year, then editor Brian Healey sponsored a competition to design a two-seat all-metal tourer which could be plans-built by amateurs. It was won by two Loughborough University lecturers and a production company was formed to market the Practavia Pilot Sprite. Initial impressions were favourable and more than one hundred sets of plans were sold but enthusiasm waned, not least because of a fatal accident to the prototype on a test flight, and only eight flew. This could become nine with the restoration of G-ROSS’S marks, a project 37 years in gestation.
