Valor tiltro­tor makes first cruise tran­si­tion

Bell’s V-280 Valor tiltro­tor, which first flew last De­cem­ber, tran­si­tioned to full cruise con­fig­u­ra­tion for the first time on 11 May, reach­ing 190kt, and is ex­pected to be fly­ing far­ther and faster through the rest of the sum­mer. De­sign cruise speed is 290kt. The air­craft is be­ing de­vel­oped jointly by Bell and Lock­heed Martin for the US Army’s Fu­ture Ver­ti­cal Lift Pro­gramme. The Valor will carry up to twelve troops or a 9,000lb un­der­slung load.
