New types for ETPS

On 17 July Pi­la­tus Chief Ex­ec­u­tive Of­fi­cer Markus Bucher handed over the first of two PC21s or­dered by Qine­tiq in 2016 for the Empire Test Pi­lots’ School (ETPS) at Boscombe Down. The sec­ond will be de­liv­ered in the fourth quar­ter of this year. The pair will be used for test pi­lot and flight test en­gi­neer train­ing cour­ses start­ing in early 2019.”

That same day, at the Farn­bor­ough In­ter­na­tional Air Show, Colin James, Air­bus He­li­copters’ UK Man­ag­ing Di­rec­tor, handed over the first H125 to Nic An­der­son, Qine­tiq’s Man­ag­ing Di­rec­tor, Air and Space. Un­der the ETPS’S mod­erni­sa­tion pro­gramme it will re­ceive four H125s for its new gen­er­a­tion sin­gle-en­gine he­li­copter fleet. All will un­dergo ex­ten­sive cus­tomi­sa­tion by Air­bus He­li­copters’ UK de­sign team, equip­ping them with a three-axis au­topi­lot, flight test in­stru­men­ta­tion suite, ded­i­cated com­mu­ni­ca­tions equip­ment and a traf­fic aware­ness sys­tem.
