Paul Allen, Mi­crosoft joint-founder and owner of the Fly­ing Her­itage Col­lec­tion in Everett, Wash­ing­ton (amid his myr­iad other in­ter­ests that in­cluded the Seat­tle Sea­hawks bas­ket­ball team, Port­land Trail Blaz­ers foot­ball team and a rock ’n’ roll mu­seum) died on 15 Oc­to­ber at the age of 65. In ad­di­tion to US and British types, the 31-air­craft-strong Fly­ing Her­itage Col­lec­tion in­cludes air­wor­thy ex­am­ples of rare WWII Rus­sian, Ger­man and Ja­panese air­craft, and a MIG-29 jet fighter. Allen was also a ma­jor backer of the Stra­to­launch project (‘ Pi­lot Notes’, Oc­to­ber).
