Leonardo and Sino-us In­tercon­ti­nen­tal He­li­copter In­vest­ment (Sino-us) of China have signed con­tracts for fif­teen AW139S for de­liv­ery be­tween 2019 and 2021. They will be used by Shang­hai King­wing Gen­eral Avi­a­tion Co Ltd to per­form EMS mis­sions. This lat­est con­tract with Sino-us fol­lows pre­vi­ous sales of 34 AW119KXS, 24 AW139S and 25 AW109 Trekkers.

Sino-us is ex­clu­sive dis­trib­u­tor of Leonardo he­li­copters in the Chi­nese civil and com­mer­cial mar­kets and plans to or­der 160 of var­i­ous types be­tween 2019-2023. It also plans to es­tab­lish a Leonard-au­tho­rised train­ing academy in China and to set up a com­ple­tions and cus­tomi­sa­tion cen­tre.

More than 185 Leonardo types have now been sold to Chi­nese cus­tomers, and with fur­ther de­liv­er­ies planned over the next few years, King­wing will be­come one of the largest op­er­a­tors of the com­pany’s he­li­copters world­wide.

Leonardo has also signed a €280 mil­lion con­tract with Italy’s Guardia di Fi­nanza for 22 AW169MS. De­liv­er­ies are ex­pected to start in sum­mer 2019 and be com­pleted by 2024. They will per­form a range of tasks in­clud­ing pa­trol and re­con­nais­sance, law en­force­ment, res­cue and home­land se­cu­rity, com­ple­ment­ing a planned fleet of four­teen AW139S, six of which are al­ready in ser­vice, with the re­main­der due to be de­liv­ered in 2019.

The AW169MS will fea­ture TCAS II, a night vi­sion gog­gles-com­pat­i­ble cock­pit, He­li­copter Ter­rain Aware­ness Warn­ing Sys­tem, Ob­sta­cle Prox­im­ity Lidar Sys­tem, Health Usage Mon­i­tor­ing Sys­tem, Au­to­matic Flight Con­trol Sys­tem with searc­hand-res­cue modes, res­cue hoist, emer­gency floata­tion gear, life rafts, wire cut­ters, search­light, ice de­tec­tor, fast rop­ing and sat­com.
