8.33khz upgrade grants total £2.65+ million

Pilot - - NOTES -

The CAA has paid 6,000-plus GA pilots and private aircraft owners more than two million pounds in grants towards the purchase of 8.33khzcompatible radios. Claimants were allowed to apply for a twenty per cent grant on any purchase of an 8.33khz radio, either fitted or handheld. The CAA applied for the funding from the EU in 2016 and the EU’S Innovation and Networks Executive Agency made €4.3m available in several tranches.

Bob Liddiard, the CAA’S Project Manager, said: “This has been a lot of hard work and we are very pleased with the outcome of this funding scheme. We recognised the challenges that many GA pilots and aircraft owners faced in having to upgrade their existing radio equipment and the grants made available by the EU assisted a high percentage of our GA community.”
