Air­bus ae­rial re­fu­elling, hot 'n' high HAL, 1000th cel­e­bra­tions

Hin­dus­tan Aero­nau­tics Lim­ited’s Light Util­ity Heli­copter (LUH) has suc­cess­fully demon­strated high al­ti­tude ca­pa­bil­ity in hot-and-high con­di­tions in the Hi­malayas. Af­ter a 1,600nm ferry flight from its base at Ben­galuru, the tri­als were car­ried out by the test pi­lots from HAL and the In­dian Air Force and Army, oper­at­ing from Leh at an al­ti­tude of 10,800ft, and in tem­per­a­tures up to ISA+32°C. Dur­ing the tri­als the LUH demon­strated its hot-and-high hover per­for­mance at Daulat Beg Oldie Land­ing Ground (ALG) at 16,000ft and at a for­ward he­li­pad at 18,000ft at ISA+27°C. Last year the LUH com­pleted hot weather tri­als at Nag­pur and sea level tri­als at Chennai, and ear­lier this year con­ducted cold weather flights at Puducherry in 2019.
