Poppy-drops

Pilot - - OLD TIMERS -

Remembrance Sunday’s fine weather enabled a variety of airborne tributes to take place. As was widely shown in the day’s news coverage, C-47 Skytrain Dragem-oot was used to drop 750,000 biodegradable (and thereafter recovered) poppies over the Battle of Britain Memorial at Capel-leFerne. It was flanked from North Weald and back by Spitfire T9 NH341/G-CICK and HF IX TD314/ G-CGYJ.

Another famous Essex airfield, Stow Maries presented a combined poppy-drop from Stampes G-AWEG, G-AYIJ and G-BPLM during its Remembrance Day event. ARC’S Blenheim made a spectacular sight dropping its poppies at low-level over IWM Duxford while, two counties away, US Army-marked Cub G-AYPM let loose its load as part of the village parade through Cosby, Leicestershire.
