Suzy’s 5 top tips to create calm

-

1

Empty your head

Try journaling before bed. Instead of ruminating on all your worries, allow your mind to process them by spilling them out onto the pages of your journal. 2

Wind down before bed Doing something creatively calming, like colouring in, is a wonderful way to diffuse the stress of your day and prepare yourself for sleep. 3

Start your morning with light

Leverage the power of morning light to help you sleep at night: expose your eyes (without sunglasses) to daylight within an hour of waking to kickstart your circadian rhythm (your natural body clock that responds to daylight and darkness). 4

Count down to bedtime

If you know you need eight hours to feel your best, set yourself an alarm for when you need to prepare for bed – and be sure to factor in the extra time that you need to fall asleep. Then work back from there to ensure you’re in bed ready to get your eight hours. 5

Buy an alarm clock

If you’re using your phone to wake you up in the morning, buy yourself an alarm clock and move your phone out of your bedroom. You can find gentle alarm clocks with soothing nature sounds and gradual light intensity so you wake up in a bright, sunny room.
