Veterans are invited to D-Day anniversary

-

D-Day veterans are being asked to come along to a commemorative event in the summer so people can thank them for their brave actions.

Veterans will be the guests of honour at the D-Day 75 event at Solent Airport at Daedalus on Saturday, June 8.

Chairman of the Daedalus Steering Group, Cllr Trevor Cartwright, is calling on family members to get in touch and bring veterans along to Solent Airport so residents can thank them for their part in the operation which was pivotal in the outcome of the Second World War.

Daedalus was the busiest airfield in the UK on D-Day with more than 400 operations - the largest number from any UK site.

Aircraft will be at the centre of a weekend of activities with a fly past, a parachute display and a range of static aircraft including Spitfires.

The event will include a fun fair, face painting, themed craft activities, character walkabouts, and a vintage car display.
