MINE’S A PUB WITH NO BEER

TASWELL ARMS HAS BEEN TURNED INTO FAMILY HOME

-

A pub with no beer was once the subject of a dreadful Aussie dirge from Slim Dusty that gained some popularity around 60 years ago.

The basis of it was that a pub with no beer is no use to anyone but there are some who would disagree – not least among them those responsible for the rejuvenation of the Taswell Arms in Southsea.

It’s about to reopen, but only on one day, so that prospective buyers can see exactly what’s on offer.

And whoever is successful will get the keys to the property and a coffee table book outlining how the project to turn the Taswell Arms into a family home has been completed.

‘The pub was a typical corner watering hole in its heyday but there’s nothing typical about it now,’ explains Colin Shairp, of Fine and Country Southern Hampshire.

‘The project has been accomplished with great quality and style and anyone attending the open day on March 30 can’t fail to be impressed.

‘A vast open plan living space has been created out of much of the ground floor, with a family room just inside the front doors, progressing via a dining area to the sitting room at the rear with doors into the secure rear courtyard and the very attractive yet highly practical kitchen to one side.

‘There is a separate study / music room opening off the family room.

‘As a former pub, the building naturally offers some very useful cellar space, while on the first floor there are four bedrooms and a family bathroom complemented by an en suite shower in the master bedroom and a ground-floor cloakroom.

‘The stairs continue to a second-floor fifth bedroom with a door at the far end into a loft storage area.

‘The book tells the full story of how the project was undertaken – the Taswell Arms has been re-wired, re plumbed, re-roofed and has new ‘A’ rated double glazed windows fitted throughout with etching to match the original pub’s designs.

‘There is oak flooring throughout the ground floor and original stripped pine floorboards to the upper floors.

‘A shingled garden wraps around the front and side of the building while automatic double gates allow access to a brick paved garden / courtyard.

‘The property is an easy walk from the Victorian seafront, schools, and sports facilities.’

Guide price is £925,000 (EPC Band tbc). For more information about the open event between 11am and 1pm on Saturday, March 30. Contact Fine and Country Southern Hampshire on 023 93 277 277 or email drayton@fineandcountry.com
