‘Scumbags’ paint swear words all over cars
Owners are left ‘devastated’ after overnight attacks
POLICE are investigating a filthy spate of vandalism which left residents horrified after large swear words were emblazoned in bright colours on cars.
Brazen graffiti vandals targeted a number of cars in streets across Buckland, North End and Copnor on Tuesday night.
Motorists with vehicles in Powerscourt Road, Stirling Street and Queens Road were also among those to wake up to the shocking scenes.
Homeowners have branded the vandalism ‘disgusting’.
Dave Harris said of the act: ‘My daughter phoned me up and said a car had been sprayed with red paint with foul words.
‘When I saw the car my daughter had done a very good job by getting most of it off. People nowadays just don’t care.’
A victim, who did not want to be named, said: ‘We got a knock on the door this morning to tell us. We’re gutted about it. But at least we were able to wash it off. There were about 20 cars affected.’
Another said: ‘It’s devastating. Really emotional.’
A resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: ‘I came out this morning and there were 10 or 20 cars just covered in orange graffiti.
‘Luckily I parked my car somewhere else last night as there was no space otherwise I would have expletives written all over my car as well. It is disgusting and the people who did this are absolute scumbags.’
Samantha John was walking her two children to Flying Bull Academy in Buckland when she came across a number of cars throughout North End, Copnor and Buckland covered in swear words.
She said: ‘Having a nearly eight-year-old and a nearlyfive-year-old who's able to read asking me what **** means was not the greatest start to the day.
‘I saw at least six cars on route taking my children to school and I see a lot of children from various schools use that route.’
Now police have revealed they are stepping up their investigations.
A police spokeswoman said: ‘We have reports of six cars being vandalised overnight and our police officers have been in the area speaking to residents.
‘The investigation has been passed to the neighbourhood policing team.’
