Sparks delighted by rapid growth

-

SARISBURY SPARKS ALLSTARS are making great progress since starting out only two years ago with just enough juniors to fill one under-12 team.

Co-founders Karen Watkins and Nikki Dunning now boast four junior teams, while their first adult Back to Netball team plays in the All-About Netball League at Cams Hill School in Fareham.

Their division four debut came against Devils and the 30-1 defeat did not reflect the standard of play.

Jackie Scrace was named best and fairest player. Devils captain Hannah Early said they enjoyed the game and agreed the score didn’t reflect the work-rate on court.

Fellow newcomers Swanmore Swifts and Black Panthers shared a thrilling game, which the latter edged 14-13.

ONS, in their second season, beat Fusion 17-15 with Vicky Heart taking the vote for players’ player.

And Queens Head Royals pipped Cams Cyclones 22-21.

Phoenix beat Delme Diamonds 31-26 in the battle of the newly-promoted sides in division three.

The under-16s Devils development squad, playing for the first time in adult competition, battled bravely in a 20-17 defeat to Panthers.

Captain Charlotte Wallace and Amber Chapman combined well in the shooting circle.

Devils goalkeeper Charlotte Pitcher was named player of the match.

Portsmouth Pivotals led the Cams Crystals youngsters in the second quarter and held firm to win 16-10.
