Try these apps for a better night’s sleep

- By Diane King

Do you have difficulty getting off to sleep at night? You’re not alone, as one in three Brits suffer from insomnia.

But you don’t need to be counting sheep into the wee small hours before entering the land of nod – these popular iOS and Android apps are tried and tested with insomniacs and set to help you get some all-important shut-eye.

White Noise Baby Sleep

Not just for babies, the White Noise Baby Sleep Sounds could be the perfect cure for tinnitus sufferers or insomniacs wanting to block out the eerie silence or busy noise of the world. The app includes variations on white noise (the ultimate sound to soothe all babies to sleep) as well as a fan noise, a vacuum cleaner sound and a shower noise.

Sleep Cycle Alarm Clock

Sleep Cycle is allegedly the world’s most used intelligent alarm clock. The app analyses sleep and wakes the user in the lightest sleep phase – meaning you’ll wake up feeling more rested and relaxed. Amongst other features the app provides a long term graph so you can monitor how much you’re sleeping and the quality of it.

Pzizz

Pzizz says it’s the number one app in the USA, UK, Australia, Canada and India – and if the reviews from Harry Potter author JK Rowling are anything to go by, this insomnia helping app looks like it could be a real game-changer for the sleep-deprived. Whether you want to sleep at night or just take a power nap during the day, Pzizz uses the science of psychoacoustics. Pzizz plays you a sleep-optimised mix of music, voiceover and sound effects. This will supposedly quickly quieten your mind and then put you to sleep – and most importantly, keep you asleep and let you wake up without feeling groggy and tired.

Snore Lab

If you’re guilty of waking up the entire neighbourhood every night thanks to your snoring, SnoreLab has been designed to help combat those midnight grunts. The app currently monitors over one million nights of snoring every month and records, measures and tracks your snoring and helps you to discover effective ways to reduce it and help you get a better sleep.
