HMS Sultan’s training scheme is praised by global institution

-

ROYAL Navy training carried out in Gosport is some of the best in the world, it has been revealed.

Training carried out at HMS Sultan’s Defence College of Technical Training’s Defence School of Marine Engineering has been recognised as meeting the global standards of the Institution of Engineering Technology (IET).

Following an inspection of HMS Sultan’s operations, the IET has established a covenant with the naval base.

The Defence Engineers Registration Scheme will create a more streamlined application process for becoming a registered engineer.

Commanding officer of HMS Sultan, Captain John Voyce, said: ‘The Royal Navy works tirelessly to ensure we create and sustain the right culture to equip and sustain our engineers and technicians with the right skills base to operate, maintain, diagnose and repair the very latest in technology anywhere in the world.

‘We are therefore very proud to be so strongly connected with the IET.’

Colin Sellers from the IET said: ‘Professional registration demonstrates that registrants meet globally recognised standards of competence and commitment in their field of engineering and technology.

‘For the Royal Navy, and the wider armed forces, it is recognition of the skills and competences, often in complex and high risk areas, of engineers and technicians, who are trained to the highest standards to deliver solutions to technical problems in often very difficult circumstances.
