Georgie is star of the show against Triangle

Batting performance is a level above but Railway side perform well

-

A POWERFUL batting display from Georgie Cant saw her take the match away from Railway Triangle as they lost to Langley Manor.

Hosts Triangle won the toss and skipper Sandy Newsham decided to bat first, writes Simon Newsham.

She was the first wicket down, being bowled with the score on seven by the impressive Georgie Cant who finished with two for 23.

Laura Ineson found the boundary four times including a beautifully timed six over mid wicket.

But she was the next to go, played on via her pad for a solid 24, to Cant.

This brought Emma Church and Zoe Stride together who set about the bowling with a partnership of 116, both players finding the boundary and sharing 20 fours between them.

They were both ruthless with anything short but equally watchful on the slow dusty Drayton pitch.

The pair were looking comfortable until Stride mistimed a drive and was caught at point by Claire Holloway.

In-form Naomi White, 19 not out, joined Church in a fifth wicket partnership worth 43 runs before Church was caught at cover for 62.

And Harriet Chandler chipped in with a couple of boundaries in the final overs.

Railway must have thought they were in a commanding position with a total of 227 from their 35 overs.

Triangle dented the Langley reply with both openers dismissed for three.

But with the score on 17 for two Cant entered the arena and set about the bowling in a way the hosts had not seen before.

Cant showed her skill on the way to 118 not out, narrowly surviving a stumping appeal when on seven she continued to play shots all around the wicket.

Georgia Northway scored 36 before being caught and bowled by Ineson.

But the partnership of 118 with Cant and then Ellie Streather with 25 not out ensured the visitors got over the line with five overs to spare and with the loss of just three wickets. Two were taken by Ineson and one for Ruth Charles. It’s still early days for the team. Every match is a learning experience. They can only go from strength to strength. And they came up against a very fine batter in Georgie Cant on Sunday and with another quality bowler or 30 more runs this would have been a nailbiter.

The contribution of Manor’s star performer made the difference.

Triangle host league leaders St Cross seconds at Drayton Park this Sunday.

They will be looking to deliver a good team performance against the top side.

It will be another excellent test for the developing Triangle outfit.
