Moving to the street beat
A new one-day event full of free family activities and live music will take place on the Guildhall steps
THERE will be a day of family fun on the Portsmouth Guildhall steps next week in the shape of a new event dubbed Beats of The Streets.
The event, put on by Portsmouth’s Guildhall Studio with LMSUKmedia, takes place next Wednesday from 11am until late. The free daytime session, from 11am-3pm, offers a range of family fun workshops and activities including the chance to design your own band merchandise T-shirt with Guildhall Studio and arty craft with Aspex Gallery.
There’s entertainment in the form of chair dancing sessions, choir performances and sets from local emerging musicians as well as the chance to find out more about the upcoming autumn programme of shows in the Guildhall Studio, supported by Victorious Festival. Gates for the evening session open at 5pm, with sets from Purple Smoke, who co-headline with Toreador, Our Propaganda, Charlie Forbes, James Laurence and Tyler Collins. The evening is programmed by Josh Robinson of LMSUKmedia. Associate producer for Guildhall Studio, Benjamin Clabon, said: ‘We are thrilled to be holding our first family festival in a day at the end of the summer and really celebrate everything that Portsmouth culturally has to offer.
‘With a mix of free and low-cost sessions we want everybody to be able to enjoy live performance and with the support of Victorious Festival, working with LMSUKmedia, we are delighted to offer a platform and support to our city’s new and developing music talent.’
Tickets for the evening are £6, available from the Guildhall box office or at portsmouthguildhall.org.uk
