Drake B sail to the fours win… Rocky in fast start

ADMIRAL DRAKE B are celebratin­g after clinching the Portsmouth Men’s Summer League fours crown.

They beat Jolly Taxpayer C 2-1 in the final.

Drake’s quartet of Mike Symes, James Brooker, Barry Stevens and Danny Smith went 1-0 up but Lee O’Donovan, Shaun O’Donovan, Jon McCoubrie and Paul La Roche made it 1-1.

Drake took the final leg with Brooker hitting the winning double.

On their way to the final Drake had dispatched Stag B’s Danny Browne, Dave Lock, Duncan Cope and Dave Smith 2-0 in their semi-final, while Taxpayer were gifted a walkover by Rose in June C.

Fountain kept alive their hopes of promotion from division two as they overcame George & Dragon 6-3.

Daryl Connor, Brian Colenutt and Kyle McManus powered Fountain into a 3-0 lead before George hit back with sets from Les Phipps and Ian Smith.

A 98 game-shot from Laurie Clark got Phoenix back to winning ways and Colin McKean won the next set to give them an insurmount­able lead.

Lee Todd added a sixth for Fountain before Grant McKnight won a late consolatio­n for George.

Andy Jenkins fired in eight maximums as he took top spot in week one of the new Portsmouth Individual League season.

Jenkins, nicknamed Rocky, beat Jon McCoubrie in the final having already bettered Ben Huntingdon in the last four.

McCoubrie won his semi against Paul Gibbs.

Ross Hughes won the plate contest with Jim Scutt finishing as runner-up.

Hughes triumphed against Ryan Groves in the previous round, while Scutt beat Lloyd Walker.

Charlie Hymers hit a 160 finish and Adam Lipscombe notched a 12-darter.
