I simply loved Edinburgh – especially the trams!
Imanaged to get a new pin in my map this week so naturally I’m very excited about it. I went to the Edinburgh Festival because the company I work for was hosting a party. Naturally I was thrilled to be going for work – it was a great opportunity to network and meet some people in the TV biz that I’ve not seen for a while.
But the prospect of returning and putting a new pin in my map was also pretty alluring, I have to say.
Having never been to the city before, I didn’t really have any expectations. So I was super-impressed by their public transport system.
Not only did they have a million buses running all the time, but they also had a tram from the airport that took you all the way into the city, up Princes Street, towards the monuments. It was an effortless journey.
Unlike trains that are massively unpredictable and often make you feel a bit queasy when the carriages are thrown around the tracks, the trams were smooth and streamlined.
Although I didn’t have long to explore
as I was there for work, I did take an hour before our flight home on Wednesday to walk around. There was a really cute little market taking place within the church grounds, where local craftsmen were selling an array of different items, from home-made soaps, to jewellery to local art.
From here I ventured through the gardens that run parallel to Princes Street which I think is the main hub for shopping.
It was just so pretty and everywhere I looked there were monuments and statues to take photos of. I can’t tell you what they were – as I said, I only had an hour.
But it was a really nice place to wonder through. In fact, I was sad to leave – I could easily have done another day or two there.
But we got the tram back to the airport and off we went on our Flybe flight back to Southampton. I say it all the time and I’ll say it again – we really are in such a fortunate position here in the south, close to lots of airports and a stone’s throw from some amazing locations.
We really should make more of it…if only pennies allowed!
