Havant teenager mastermind­s surprise triumph over A team — again

JAMIE WILSON caused a stir when he captained the England's under-16 B team to a shock victory at the Snooker Home Internatio­nals in Leeds.

And the Havant 15-year-old revealed morale was fuelled after each victory by celebrator­y milkshakes at a nearby branch of Deli Chez.

It was the second year running the B team have defeated the A side and gone on to lift the shield.

And Wilson starred on both occasions for the underdogs.

The rookie skipper paid tribute to the assistance of a team-mate from Harrogate and admitted that, on paper, his side were definitely second favourites.

'I had Kaif Shazad helping me throughout the week,' he said.

'Never in a million years, looking at how good the A team was, would you have thought the B team could have won. It was brilliant. An amazing experience.

'After every match we went to this milkshake place. It was a great time up there.'

With 11 wins in 12 frames, Wilson finished top of the player ratings across all six teams. He also recorded the competitio­n’s highest break of 86. As well as the A team, England B beat Scotland, Wales and both Republic of Ireland squads in the four-day event. Wilson’s coach Tim Dunkley added: 'Captaining your country to victory is the stuff of Jamie Wilson's break of 86 topped the under-16 charts in Leeds dreams. The enormity of what Jamie and his team achieved can’t be overstated.'

Billy Reid heads the Monday Junior Snooker League at Waterloovi­lle Sports Bar for the first time in his career.

Jake Sharp won the top group for the first time in the Wednesday Junior Snooker League.

Keira Hiscock, nine, took the honours in the top group of the Junior Pool League.
