Woody Allen confesses to love affair with Mia Farrow’s adopted daughter

-

This week in 1992, film director Woody Allen admitted that he was having an affair with the 21-year-old adopted daughter of Mia Farrow, his leading lady for 12 years. The normally reclusive Allen said in a statement that he was in love with Soon-Yi Previn, whom Ms Farrow adopted in the 1970s with her former husband, the conductor Andre Previn.

Ms Farrow’s mother, the

actress Maureen O’Sullivan, was reported earlier to have said Soon-Yi had “been foolish and misguided about an old man”, adding: “I mean, he’s old enough to be her grandfather.”

In a statement reacting to newspaper reports that the affair might have been the last straw in his relationship with Farrow, Allen said: Regarding my love for Soon-Yi, it’s real and happily all true.”

In other news, world boxing champion Chris Eubank was fined £250 with £1,450 costs for driving without due care and attention in a road accident in which a man was killed. Eubank apologised in court to the family of the man who died when the boxer’s Range Rover left the road and ploughed into a building site.

But later an uncle of the crash victim, Kevin Lawlor, 33, denounced the fighter’s apology as insincere.

John Smith, 46, described the £250 fine as like a drop in the ocean, and said Mr Lawler’s mother would never forgive Eubank for “behaving the way he has since behaved and conducted himself following Kevin’s death”.

He said Eubank appeared to be insensitive, to lack dignity, to be insecure, arrogant, self-opinionated and superficial.”

In sport, Nigel Mansell at last achieved his dream by becoming Formula One world drivers’ champion and the first Briton for 16 years to take the title.

Mansell, 39, dedicated the championship to his daughter Chloe, who was celebrating her 10th birthday.

Mansell took the title in the Hungarian Grand Prix, although he finished second to the defending champion, Ayrton Senna of Brazil.
