Gosport goals legend Justin still bangs them in for fun

-

JUSTIN Bennett’s insatiable appetite for goals shows no signs of deserting him.

Bennett left Gosport Borough at the end of 2015/16 after firing a club record 263 goals in nine amazing seasons.

That total included 34 Conference South goals in 2013/14 – he was the leading scorer in the division that term – and 32 in all competitions in his final Privett Park campaign.

He finished on a high, netting both goals in Gosport’s 2-1 Russell Cotes Cup final win over AFC Portchester.

Bennett – who once scored 63 goals in a Wessex League season for Andover in the early noughties – subsequently joined hometown club Salisbury, and fired 42 goals in all competitions in 2016/17 prior to moving to Oxford City.

A serious knee injury sidelined him for the best part of a year, and last season Bennett turned out for AFC Totton in the Southern League.

This summer he joined Bemerton, newly relegated to Division 1 of the Wessex League.

Already, Bennett has fired 19 goals in just nine starts – including seven in a 13-0 Salisbury Hospital Cup annihilation of Salisbury in pre-season.

He has two three-goal hauls to his name – against New Milton in the league and Andover Town in the Wessex League Cup.

Bennett also struck three goals over two ties in an FA Cup exit to Andover New Street.

Baffins Milton’s Jason Parish and Bobby Scott of Horndean have both struck seven times this season.

Horndean are away to struggling Amesbury in the Wessex Premier tomorrow.

Another former Gosport striker has also started the Wessex season well.

Craig McAllister – who was Borough’s playermanager last term – has already hit the goal trail for new club Alresford Town.

Bognor Regis are away to East Thurrock in the Isthmian Premier Division tomorrow.
