Judging is under way for Business Excellence Awards

Expert judges run rule over contenders

-

EXCITEMENT is building as the biggest night in Portsmouth’s business diary is returning with a bang.

The News’ Business Excellence Awards are set to return for their 19th year on Friday, February 21 2020, at Portsmouth Guildhall with a ceremony, three-course meal and gala-style party.

Scores of businesses have put themselves forward in the hope of picking up one of the 14 accolades that will be handed out on the night.

Judging has started, with a panel of expert judges, including representatives from headline sponsor Trethowans, and other sponsors such as Verisona Law and the University of Portsmouth, rigorously assessing the applications.

An initial process has already begun, with the judges creating shortlists for the categories, which range from Start-up Business to Large Business of the Year, and Apprentice of the Year to Lifetime Achievement.

This shortlist will be revealed in next Friday’s edition of The News , with a supplement of all the lucky shortlisted businesses and individuals in each category.

Editor of The News , Mark Waldron said: ‘The biggest night in the business diary is nearing and the excitement is clearly building. I have been impressed by the calibre, quantity and diversity of the entries so far. It is shaping up to be an interesting and exciting event.’

Sponsoring the awards as a whole is once again law firm Trethowans, which has been a leading figure in the region’s legal sector since it was founded over 150 years ago.

The firm supports thousands of businesses and individuals, providing advice and support on a wide range of legal issues.

But while national success has been abundant Trethowans has stayed true to its roots and works with a wealth of businesses in the Solent.

As well as the categories that are rigorously judged by an expert panel, there is also an opportunity for readers to have their say on the best business of the night with the Readers’ Choice award.

The award is voted for by readers of The News. Details on how to vote will be revealed along with the shortlist supplement.

Tickets for the awards are on sale now and can be purchased from portsmouthbusinessexcellence.co.uk.
