Ex-Premier League ace now works as a waiter

-

FORMER Pompey striker Dario Silva is now working as a waiter in a pizza restaurant and has accused agents of robbing him of his money.

The man who turned out in the Premier League for the Blues during the 2005-06 season, making 15 appearances and scoring three goals, is now making ends meet in a Spanish pizzeria.

Silva, pictured, was signed when Alain Perrin was boss at Fratton Park and failed to make a mark in his time at PO4.

Less than a year later, however, a horrific car crash led to the Uruguay international having a leg amputated.

And the man who played in La Liga for the likes of Sevilla and Malaga is now struggling to earn a crust, despite a career which saw him play at the top level in England, Spain and Italy.

In a Spanish TV interview reported in The Sun, Silva said: ‘My money in football? The representatives ended up robbing it from me,’

‘They managed the money and did what they wanted.’

John Coleman has lavished praise on Kenny Jackett by insisting: there was never any doubt he’d turn it around at Pompey.

The Accrington Stanley boss said the experience and coolness under pressure of Pompey manager Jackett gave him the tools to overcome the Blues’ poor start to the season.

Accy play host to Pompey today (3pm kick-off).

Coleman told accringtonstanley.co.uk: ‘Kenny has a wealth of experience to draw on and he won’t have the fear factor of a lot of the younger, inexperienced managers who can’t cope with a bad run.

‘He knows the game inside out and there was never any doubt they would come through their start to the season.

‘Any team who comes here should be prepared for a really tough game with a cracking atmosphere from our own fans, players playing on the front foot and wanting to win games.

‘If we do not win on Saturday, it won’t be for want of trying.’

Jackett’s side have got themselves into the League One promotion mix thanks to a run of form that has seen them go unbeaten in their past 10 outings in all competitions.
