WHAT’S HOT TO WATCH ON AND AROUND NEW YEAR’S EVE
Craig David will be brightening up New Year’s Eve on BBC One in a very special live concert, in Craig David Rocks Big Ben Live, New Year’s Eve 11.25pm, as the multiple award-winning and critically acclaimed singer songwriter performs a selection of his smash hits and much more besides to welcome in 2020. As a much-loved and respected figure in British music culture, Craig is responsible for a string of global hits including Fill Me In, 7 Days, Heartline and Do You Miss Me Much and will be kicking things off on the big night as he is joined on stage at London’s Central Hall Westminster by his legendary band. As Big Ben strikes midnight, London’s famous fireworks will light up the night sky over the River Thames with a spectacular display choreographed to a specially edited medley of music. After that, the action switches back inside Central Hall Westminster as Craig returns one more time with one of his globally renowned TS5 sets as the party continues. Jools’ Annual Hootenanny (New Year’s Eve, BBC Two, 11.15pm) is now firmly part of the UK’s tradition in celebrating the new year on television. He and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra take centre stage in providing the soundtrack to seeing out the old year and welcoming in the new. Joining Jools on this year’s Hootenanny are Stormzy, Brittany Howard, La Roux, Rick Astley, Tom Walker, YolanDa Brown, Stereophonics, Melanie, Eddi Reader, Pauline Black and Arthur ‘Gaps’ Hendrickson from The Selecter, Joseph, Ruby Turner, and the Pipes And Drums of The 1st Battalion Scots Guards. In the studio audience will be some of the British film and TV stars of the year who’ll be joining in with the evening’s merriment and will be telling Jools their 2019 highlights, resolutions and predictions for the year ahead. With their annual tradition, the Pipes and Drums of The 1st Battalion Scots Guards are piping in the midnight hour. With more hits than you can shake a stick at - Hootenanny is the best soundtrack any party could have! Meanwhile on Channel 4, it’s The Last Leg Of The Year from 9pm. The award-winning show is supersized this New Year’s Eve with an extra-special two-hour extravaganza to wave goodbye to 2019. To celebrate the arrival of a brand new decade, and to look back at the highs and lows of the past year, Adam Hills, Josh Widdicombe and Alex Brooker are joined by a host of celebrity guests including Sue Perkins, Sara Pascoe, Tom Davis, Rosie Jones and Johnny Vegas, who will also be manning the bar, plus racing driver Billy Monger. House band The Horne Section provide the musical entertainment. Alex Brooker will take on his most daring challenge yet as he is put through the paces as a racing driver, aiming to become the first disabled man in history to complete a high-speed lap in a F4 racing car at worldrenowned circuit Donington Park - potentially reaching speeds of 120mph.
