Being with family makes me feel warm and fuzzy

- CHERYL GIBBS

As I’m one for keeping up traditions, last Sunday we took my sisters’ children to Four London Road in Horndean for their Santa Brunch. I say it’s a tradition but we only started going last year and who knows if we end up doing it again next year.

Our baby will be about eight months old then and therefore unlikely to sit still for more than a couple of minutes.

Either way, we went this year and it didn’t disappoint.

I was thrilled to see that they brought back the same Santa as last year and the kids were even more pleased when he remembered them, declaring to Lewie ‘We flossed last year, didn’t we Lewie?’

My nephew was overjoyed. At nine years old he’s on the cusp of figuring the whole Santa thing out, so I think it just reignited a little bit of magic for him and it was lovely to see.

This year we took my other sister Michelle’s two daughters – Sienna, three and Florence, six months, and they were both little angels.

There was a family sitting next to us and the woman kept looking over at me, giving me sympathetic smiles and nods of encouragement.

She finally plucked up the courage to say what I knew she was wondering, ‘Are they all yours?’

I replied that they weren’t, patted my belly and said, ‘Just this little one’.

Well, I’ve never seen someone look more relieved, bless her.

She said, ‘what a fantastic auntie and uncle you are’, which I thought was lovely and actually made me feel quite warm and fuzzy inside.

Things will change a lot next year with the arrival of our bubba and I cannot wait to be a mum.

I’m glad that we’ve had this time with my sisters’ children. The bond we have is so strong because we’ve put the time in with them and I think you can tell.

They’re all so excited that they’re going to have another cousin and while Hollie and Lewie are getting to that age where they won’t want to play with their new cousin for long, for now I’ll just bask in their excitement that in a couple of months there will be another addition to the Gibbs/Kingston family.
