Hawks out to avoid unusual double loss

-

Hawks are aiming to avoid being on the end of an unusual double this weekend.

Braintree ended Hawks’ unbeaten home league record in mid-September with a 3-1 victory at Westleigh Park.

Now the Essex club could end their unbeaten away league record as well with another victory tomorow.

But that is easier said than done looking at current form.

While Paul Doswell’s Hawks have won their last four National South games, Braintree are on a shocking run of results having lost seven of their last nine league and cup matches.

Included in that dire run were 5-1 and 3-0 losses to relegation-threatened Tonbridge and Hungerford - the latter loss at home - while the Essex club were also thrashed 6-2 at Welling.

In addition, they were beaten 2-1 at home in the FA Trophy by Southern League Premier South strugglers Yate Town.

‘Braintree is always a difficult place to go,’ said Doswell.

‘They don’t get big crowds and the pitch isn’t great.

‘We will have to go there and create our own atmosphere and produce our own energy.

‘Whenever I have taken teams there before it has always been a battle.

‘They have a certain way of playing that makes it difficult for you.

‘Also they have beaten us once already this season at Westleigh Park.

‘Inthatgamewe battered them but failed to take all the chances we created.

‘We can now go there with the aim of putting the record straight.’

Braintree are currently on their third manager of the season.

Glen Driver resigned after the home defeat to Hungerford and playerboss Jake Hutchings only lasted a few weeks before also stepping down.

The vastly-experienced George Borg is now in charge.
