Jamie proves winning can become nice habit
JAMIE Wilson proved winning can become a habit by regaining top spot on the Cuestars Under-21 Gold Tour.
The 16-year-old from Havant beat Londoner Aristos Pampouris 2-0 in the final of the sixth leg
He pocketed £100 prize money after recording the day’s highest break of 95 against O’Shay Scott in the round-robin group stage.
It followed his maiden Cuestars tournament win in Coulsdon in December after an eight-year wait.
Wilson reckons he is playing much better since he broke his duck.
He said: ‘I’m getting used to (winning) now. I didn’t feel as much pressure in the final as I did in the other finals.’
Wilson defeated defending rankings champion Oliver Sykes 2-0 in the last-eight after qualifying from his round-robin group.
He then compiled a 65 break to wrap up a 2-0 last-four victory over the 2017/18 champion Bradley Cowdroy.
And he made a 56 from 35 points down to secure the second frame against Pampouris.
There was a welcome smile on the face of Aaron Wilson (no relation) at the end of a momentous day.
The 12-year-old beat his Waterlooville Sports Bar clubmate Jake Sharp to progress past the quarter-finals for the first time.
He then knocked in a new high break of 25 in the third-frame decider of his last-four victory over Londoner Zain Jeraj.
He eventually lost 2-0 in the final to rankings champion-elect Harry Wyatt, from Ferndown.
Wilson is now joint sixth in the ranking.
Sharp had beaten Wyatt en route to topping his group.
There were group-stage exits for Tyler Mack, Ryan Wilson, Ryan Kneller, Sam Walter, Daniel Walter and second-placed George Laxton (via a three-way play-off).
Samuel Laxton was undefeated in the Silver group stages but lost 2-0 in the last-eight to Wiltshire’s Riley Ellis.
SECOND-placed Harrison Heath kept the pressure on Division 1 leader Rhys Pearce by winning the top group in the Junior Pool League at Waterlooville Sports Bar.
Heath took the honours from his title rival on the head-to head rule.
He lost only to debutant Matthew Curtis and Tyler Rodgers. Archie Crump heads Division 2. Division 1 leader Jamie Wilson knocked in the highest break of 80 in the Monday Junior Snooker League.
But second-placed Owen Jenkins won the top group to cut the deficit to one point.
