Seddon could stay in blue
But Birmingham defender can’t say for sure what future holds
STEVE SEDDON has admitted Pompey remain an option for a permanent summer switch.
But the Birmingham left-back insists it would be ‘disrespectful’ to voice any preference for where his future lies.
Seddon has proven an astute loan capture for Kenny Jackett, making 17 appearances since his January arrival.
Establishing himself as first-choice left-back, the Blues have intimated they would like to turn his Fratton Park into a permanent one.
Certainly the 22-year-old wants regular first-team football next season – wherever that may take him.
And with 12-months remaining on his St Andrew’s contract, there could potentially be career-changing decisions in the pipeline.
He said: ‘It's definitely a positive thing that the club have said they would like to keepme.
‘I cannot say I would love to be here or anything like that, I’m really not in the position to.
‘I am contracted to Birmingham and I think it’s wrong to start coming out and saying things that you want to be here and want to be there.
‘Attheendoftheday,it’sa conversation which has to be held behind closed doors with the clubs.
‘But for me, I’m definitely looking to find somewhere I can really thrive – and there is no doubt Pompey is an option that I would love to come to.
‘I cannot say, though, that I want to be there rather than there because I feel it’s wrong.
‘I feel it’s disrespectful to both clubs.’
Seddon has featured just five times for Birmingham since emerging through their youth set-up.
Instead he has been presented with precious firstteam opportunity during loan spells at Stevenage and AFC Wimbledon.
However, he started the 2019-20 campaign in the Championship side’s starting XI at Brentford for a 2-1 loss.
That was one of five outings in August, among which was Birmingham’s 3-0 defeat at Fratton Park in the Carabao Cup.
Seddon, though, fell out of favour and, by the time he arrived at Pompey in January, had gone four months without a first-team appearance.
A successful loan spell with Jackett’s side has whetted his appetite for more regular match action once he returns to the midlands.
That would put Pompey in the frame, although his parent club are entitled to ask for a transfer fee for his services.
Regardless, Seddon doesn’t want to return to St Andrew’s to become a bit-part player once more.
He added: ‘I want to play regularly. That is no different to any player I know.
‘Everyone wants to play regularly, that’s what we get paid for, that’s our job and it’s what we love to do. Playing regularly is definitely a priority and a preference.’
