Cat charity thanks News readers for their overwhelming support

-

On behalf of Cats Protection’s Gosport Branch I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to readers of The News for their extremely generous contributions to our #HereForTheCats campaign.

We had raised £100 before you ran a piece about our campaign online on Friday, May 29, and then in the printed paper on Monday, June 1.

Now, just five days after that first piece, your kind readers have raised more than three times our £500 target.

We have been especially moved by the kind messages that have featured on our fundraising page (justgiving.com/campaign/ GosportTown).

These have included one from Tommy (cat) Izzard, the first cat homed when my predecessor became the branch’s coordinator 10 years ago. Tommy is now 17. Another message was posted in memory of Darcey, a beautiful cat who was found very sadly hit by a car and with whose owner we had to share the terrible news that she would not be coming home.

Our work has many highs and lows which are reflected in the lovely messages.

We would like to say a special thank you to one gentleman who, upon hearing about the campaign, shocked and delighted us with a cheque for £1,000.

We cannot thank your readers enough. Their generosity not only benefits the cats currently in our care but enables us to help more cats once lockdown eases and we can recommence all areas of our work once more.

Thank you. Kate Stapleford

Branch co-ordinator Gosport Cats Protection
