Faith is a very strong tool

GURU Nanak sar Gurdwara Portsmouth is adhering to and respecting the laws and rules given out by the government and other official bodies during this very difficult time.

The Sikh religion was founded more than 550 years ago by Guru Nanak Dev Ji, a very humble and respected servant of God and mankind.

Born into a different religion, Guru Nanak Dev Ji looked for the ideology he felt he was not getting from his life.

Sikh literally means ‘to learn’ and Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s preaching was that followers should lead a simple life, work hard for an honest living, and respect all mankind.

Guru Ji respected the ideals of all religions.

We send this message out to the Sikhs and everyone to stay strong and safe during this very difficult time.

The Gurdwara Sahib offers you a message to remain strong towards our dedication to God through your ‘dharam’ belief.

We are blessed in these modern times that advanced communication systems allow us to keep in touch with family and loved ones.

Please access our website for regular updates on the Gurdwara Sahib activity.

Faith is a strong tool for man’s sanity and wellbeing.

We hope you will stay strong and allow faith to help you cope while we pray for a direction when life can resume as we have accustomed ourselves to.

Guru Nanak Sar Gurdwara Portsmouth was established in 1963 and we moved to our current premises in Margate Road, in 1971, and bought the building next door in 1996.

We are a very strong part of the Portsmouth community.

There is a great Sikh saying, ‘Jiske sear uphar thoo suamee soa dukh kesa phavea’.

The saying means: ‘With the grace of the almighty we shall all remain safe’.

Here follows a message from the Guru Ghar at Portsmouth to all our regular patrons: ‘Please keep strong to the cause.

‘May waheguru ji bless you and your families and we look forward to seeing you back and worshipping very soon’. ‘Kar kirpa kirpal thoo apea baksh lea. ‘Waheguru Ji khalsa waheguru Ji ki fateh’.

The English translation is: ‘With the grace of the Almighty our sins will be forgiven. It’s good to be in your company, may all the glory be to God’.
