Portsmouth & Southsea extend winning run
Portsmouth & Southsea extended their 100 per cent record at the top of the Southern Premier League’s Division 2/Division 3 East cup group.
Jake Peach and Chris Turrell shared six wickets as P& S rolled over Hartley Wintney for jyst 77 to record their third successive win.
They have the same record – three victories and two abandonments – as Liphook & Ripsley, with both teams locked on top spot on the same points and same amount of bonus points with two games to go.
Asked to bat first, Portsmouth were dismissed for 131 in 29.4 overs – wides (30) top scoring ahead of
Matt Benfield (28) and Ollie Kanavan (23).
Teenager Angus Brown claimed career best figures of 6-17 – including six wides! – in his 4.4 over spell.
In reply, opening bat Brown was dismissed for a single by Jono Willey before Peach claimed the wicket of skipper Will Kerr (6).
Peach (3-21) and Turrell (3-15) both got amongst the Wintney order as the visitors collapsed to 58-8.
Purbrook’s miserable SPL Division 2/Division 3 East cup campaign continued with a 69-run loss to Liphook.
For the third time in five games – all of which they have lost – they were bowled out for under 100.
This time they were routed for 87 in reply to Liphook’s 156 all out.
The day had started well for Purbook, though, with Liphook slipping to 116-7 (Grant Rouse 45).
But No 10 Charles Janczur (30) whacked five fours in a 28-ball knock as the last wicket added 33 runs.
In reply, Purbook’s top order was blown away.
Opener John Moller (2), skipper Josh McCoy (0),
Josh Spiers (0) and Alex Cox (4) were all out cheaply as Purbrook nosedived to 18-4.
Opener Martin Lee (42) and No 6 Brad Mengham
(20) took the score to 59 before wickets began falling regularly again.
Dave Elliott ended with 4-17 as Purbrook – routed for 64 (v Waterlooville) and 80 (v Portsmouth & Southsea) previously in 2020 – again failed to make three figures.
