Media firm’s lockdown drone record of city
Production company’s documentary captures Portsmouth’s empty streets
A MEDIA production company that takes photos and videos with drones is creating a documentary of life in Portsmouth during lockdown.
Michael Sanders Woods, who runs Solent Sky Services, in Fratton, has been documenting what Portsmouth has been like for a documentary called A Different Perspective of Portsmouth.
The Portsmouth dad-ofone, who has owned the family-run business for four years, gained permission from the council to be classed as a key worker to allow him to fly drones and capture the empty streets.
He has also been following the changes as things go back to normal, such as the shops reopening in Gunwharf Quays and Commercial Road.
His documentary will tell the stories of businesses in the city which have experienced struggles, as well as charities and organisations, such as Portsmouth HIVE, St Margaret’s Church and Pompey in the Community.
It also follows the lives of individuals and families.
Mike said: ‘We’re telling the stories of regular people doing good things for others, however big or small.
‘We have spoken to a lot of people who have given up something for others during the pandemic, whether that’s simply going shopping for a neighbour or something bigger.
‘We feel that so many people have been doing their bit and we wanted to celebrate them and document positive stories.
‘Now we’re starting to come out of lockdown, we want to end the documentary with positive stories of how people are finding life as it returns to a new kind of normal.’
The idea for the film came off the back of a crowdfunder that Mike set up in April – which raised £5,000.
