Injured Bass to be back in training next week

-

ALEX BASS will return to training next week after missing last night’s pre-season victory at Gosport Borough.

The Pompey keeper watched his side’s 4-0 victory from the Privett Park stands.

He suffered an ankle injury during the Blues’ penalty shootout win over Stevenage in the Carabao Cup first round on Saturday, following a 3-3 draw after 90 minutes.

Bass was receiving treatment from head physio Bobby Bacic before the win against Gosport, after arriving to the ground laterthan his teammates.

The academy graduate was unlikely to have started the match anyway, after being replaced by Craig MacGillivray at half-time against Stevenage.

MacGillivray featured in the first half against Gosport and had little to do as Ronan Curtis netted to give Pompey a 1-0 lead at the break.

Duncan Turnbull then came on for the second half. He made three decent stops within a short period after Reeco Hackett-Fairchild’s quickfire double extended the Blues’ lead.

Ryan Williams rounded off the win with 20 minutes remaining.

Turnbull had been on trial with the Hawks, having played in friendly wins against AFC Totton and Horndean. But Paul Doswell has not offered the American a loan deal.
