Reds warm up for USP tie with 11 goal romp

Fareham Town Under-18s warmed up for tonight’s FA Youth Cup first qualifying round tie at US Portsmouth with an 11-0 victory in the Hampshire Developmen­t League.

George Lewry and Joshua Heaton both scored hat-tricks against Chichester as the Reds bounced back from losing their first two league matches.

Lloyd Davies - who started the rout with a goal in the first minute - and Joe Neely both scored twice with sub Max Lindsay also scoring.

All Lewry’s goals came in the first half and Fareham led 7-0 at half-time.

The Reds had lost 9-0 to Winchester City and 3-2 to Petersfiel­d in their first two games.

US Portsmouth drew 2-2 with Gosport Borough at the weekend.

Danny Knight’s youngsters have already played one game in the Youth Cup.

In their first-ever season in the tournament, they beat Bournemout­h Poppies 5-1 at the Victory Stadium.

Hawks travel to Poole tonight for their first qualifying round tie against Hamworthy United.

It is a tough test for the Hawks youngsters, who will be managed by Joe Oastler, as the Hammers boast one of the best youth systems in Dorset.

Gosport Borough 6-0 in their qualifying round tie a fortnight ago and on Sunday won 8-1 in a Dorset Under18 League game against Dorchester Town.

Prior to that, they had won 13-0 against Christchur­ch,

5-1 against Weymouth and

7-1 against Dorchester in friendlies.

Moneyfield­s enter the Youth Cup on Thursday with a home tie against Basingstok­e, while AFC Portcheste­r travel to Brockenhur­st the same evening.

Moneyfield­s warmed up for their game with a 4-0 win at Portcheste­r on Sunday in what was the Royals’ first Hampshire Combinatio­n East game of 2020/21.

Portcheste­r have already played one Youth Cup tie, a 4-0 win at Alton which featured two goals from Patrick Hnath.

After this week, there are two more rounds of qualifying before League 1 and League 2 clubs such as Portsmouth enter at the first round proper stage.

The Premier League and Championsh­ip clubs enter at the third round stage.
