Thank you to the two ladies who helped when I tripped on the beach

- Esme Vivian

Last Monday the weather forecast was good with sunshine and temperatures reaching the mid twenties.

Was this the best opportunity for me to take my annual dip in the sea? Most definitely.

As sea temperatures go the water was really warm and after a good quarter of an hour I was swimming but the current was drifting me away from my possessions on the beach so I didn't stay long and managed to skim over the sharp stones to the shore line. I stood up and realised that with nothing on my feet it was going to be very difficult to reach my shoes. I would need help. With that thought I fell backwards on to the sharp stones, mercifully not hitting my head on any of them. But my hand was cut and no amount of washing in the sea would stop it bleeding.

Within a few minutes two very kind ladies rushed up to help me. They had come down to enjoy time on the beach with their children after school. Having found my shoes and clothes, they wrapped me up in towels and sat me on the beach near a large stone to lean back on and held my hand up to check the bleeding. Their children were curious but soon went off to play happily a short distance away. They rang my husband to explain what had happened. Later they parked my car off the car park and took me to the Minor Injuries Department next to the Gosport War Memorial Hospital, where I was stitched up and sent home in the care of my husband.

Jo and Emma could not have done more to help and I am very grateful to them and their children for their forbearance. My warmest thanks to them all with love and very best wishes.
