Portsmouth rape: Four teens are bailed following vile sex attack

POLICE have bailed four teenagers questioned after the rape of a 19-year-old woman as she walked through Buckland during the early hours of Sunday.

The woman said she was approached by two men as she walked along Lake Road and then attacked on Turner Road just before 1am.

Two 18-year-old men, two 17-year-old boys, and a 16-year-old boy, were arrested on suspicion of rape on Sunday afternoon, with police receiving an extension to keep the teenagers in custody for further questionin­g.

One of the 17-year-old boys was bailed on Wednesday, while the rest saw another extension to their questionin­g in custody, before they were granted conditiona­l bail yesterday. They have all been bailed until 18 October pending further enquiries.

A sixth person – a third 17-year-old-boy – was arrested on suspicion of rape on Monday and questioned by police before being released without charge on Wednesday. He remains under investigat­ion.

A spokeswoma­n from Hampshire Constabula­ry said: ‘The victim is continuing to receive support from specialist officers. We remain keen to speak with anyone who may have informatio­n which could assist our enquiries.

‘If you saw anyone acting suspicious­ly around the area of Lake Road and Turner Road early on Sunday morning, or if you have dash cam or CCTV footage from the area, then please contact us. You will continue to see uniformed officers patrolling the area. If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to speak with them.’
