To deny Covid-19 and dig at our scientists is truly embarrassing

-

I find it baffling that there are so many people fully denying that Covid-19 exists.

Even some of the letter writers in The News’ Community Views pages suggest it isn’t as bad as it has been made out.

Do you not realise how incredibly insensitive that is to people who have lost loved ones?

Not only did they go through that pain and suffering, but may have gone through it alone, cooped up in a flat with no one to talk to.

That loved one – a best friend, parent, grandparent, cousin, partner, son or daughter – may have been deprived of a proper goodbye and funeral, leaving the family with no closure.

Yes, we have to live with the virus – thank you to everyone who has stated the obvious with that one.

But there is living with the virus and remaining careful and then there is having blatant disregard for guidelines put in place to protect everyone. To ignore them is incredibly selfish.

I also find it incredulous that so many believe that our Chief Medical Officer, Professor Chris Whitty, and our Chief Scientific Advisor, Sir Patrick Vallance, are talking nonsense.

It is laughable to think of these keyboard warriors – yes, I am talking to some of you

letter writers – actually and genuinely believing that they are not talking facts. To sit behind a computer screen at home, completely alienated from a hospital or family which has been affected by the virus, and suggest they have got it wrong really shows the measure of you. Think before you write something truly embarrassing.
