Three Blues loanees help Gosport to convincing victory
Shaun Gale has lauded Gosport Borough's links with Pompey as they continued their excellent start to the season.
Borough followed up their away draw at Chesham and FA Cup triumph at Tavistock with a comfortable 4-0 Southern League Premier win against Farnborough at Privett Park.
In truth, after their demanding trip to Devon in midweek, Borough couldn't have wished for an easier task.
On the evidence provided Farnborough look set to struggle and Borough controlled the game virtually from start to finish.
Gale admits his team face much sterner challenges ahead, starting with tonight's visit to Beaconsfield (7.45pm).
He was delighted with the way his re-jigged team dominated their Hampshire rivals and his three Pompey loanees played an influential part.
The Blues connection was strengthened with debutmaking Harry Kavanagh joining Eion Teggart and Gerard Storey in the starting line-up.
'It was an excellent performance after the week that we have had,' said Gale.
'I challenged the players to go out and put in another performance with energy.
'We picked a very young team with no Eliiott Charles who was struggling with a back problem so we left him out completely.
'Our links with Portsmouth has been brilliant and the three that have come in have been different class.
'They and our own youngsters showed that the game is about pace and movement.
'I am happy to go that way, involving the best of local talent in the area.
'As a club I believe it is the way forward.
'We played some great football and on another day if we had scored nine or ten I don't think they could have complained.
'Some great balls were put into their box and we created some excellent chances.
'I thought Farnborough would come and camp behind the ball and that is what they did.
'It was important that we used the pace in our team and
stretched them on the flanks.
'After such a long journey in midweek, my worry was that we might run out of steam a little bit.
'To be fair we did that in the end, but that was to be expected.'
After a scare in the opening minute, Borough took complete and made a deserved breakthrough in the 22nd minute.
Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain cleverly stepped over a through ball from Rory Williams, leaving Dan Wooden to run on and tuck the ball under the goalkeeper.
On 33 minutes Bradley Tarbuck extended Borough's lead after capitalising on a defensive error.
A defender failed to control the ball just inside his area and Tarbuck thrashed an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net.
E igh t minutes after the restart, Aaron McCreadie notched his first Borough goal.
Wooden flicked on a
Tarbuck cross and, when Liam Beach clawed the ball away, McCreadie was virtually on the goalline when he knocked in the loose ball. Substitute Pat Suraci completed the rout 14 minutes from the end, firing a low shot into the bottom far corner.
A little tiredness crept in after that and the game fizzled out to its conclusion.
'We scored some great goals and should have had some more,' said Gale.
'A lot of the lads out there were only 18 and 19 years old.'
Gale is hoping to have a few players back for tonight's visit to Beaconsfield, who have the advantage of not having played at the weekend.
'We have to be ready to go again,' he said.
