Pyramids anger

-

I quote from Liberal Democrat councillor Steve Pitt in comments on Facebook: ‘It doesn’t matter how much people write in, object, demonstrate or otherwise, the council cannot continue to provide a fun pool in Portsmouth.

‘Direct your anger at the government,’ yes, you Lib Dems are good at blaming others, and yes, ‘the responsibility of its upkeep rested with PCC and the investment it needed to change its customer-facing areas wasn’t made available five years ago when it should have been. Now it’s simply too late’.

Bit late for apologies Mr Pitt, if indeed it is one…..

‘The council is facing a £14m black hole in this financial year due to Covid 19’ – yet plans for the ‘new Pyramids’ must have been in the pipeline months before.

The plans alone for such a large soft play area would have taken a lot of time and a lot of money!

The secrecy surrounding these plans would have been a credit to 007 and the release of the plans two weeks before the culture, leisure and economic development cabinet meeting at 10am on October 16, where the decision to accept the ‘New Pyramids Plan’ will be made seems to be almost calculated!?

If you had opened the concert venue to enterprising people like Idols Promotions who arrange gigs for local and new bands that would have been better than it lying empty – try and think out of the box Mr Pitt.

The bottom line is the majority of people don’t want a huge soft play area (and just imagine the cleaning bill).

Knock it down was another of your suggestions… why after the flood episode a state of the arts pump room designed to last 25 years as installed and there were new changing rooms – all only eight years ago!

It’s a shame the council see this as having only one solution. I would like to see the pool retained and the whole centre, including the concert hall.

Ask the people of Portsmouth if they are willing to see taxes raised to pay for it and let PCC run it as it was back in the day.
