Rebecca’s late leveller

-

A last-minute equaliser by Rebecca Reavell gave Fareham their first South Women’s League Division 2 point of the new season against Harrow.

For long periods it looked as though Harrow, newly promoted as 2019/20 Division 3A winners, might nick the win on the back of Tasha Webster’s 23rd minute goal.

But having weathered an early second half penalty corner storm, Fareham finished strongly and deserved their late equaliser.

Fareham, still bedding newcomers into their side, found Harrow’s direct and physical style difficult to encounter and fell behind.

In the final quarter Fareham enjoyed their best hockey of the game, with their passing improving and attacking down both flanks.

It took Fareham until almost the final play before they equalised from a short corner - Reavell firing home from just inside the circle.

‘With a little more time we probably could have grabbed a winner,’ sighed coach Steve Lemon, who plans to increase Fareham’s fitness levels in the coming weeks.

‘It was a frustrating game for long periods, but we can play better and must acknowledge this season is a learning experience at a higher level.’
