USP keeping their cup dream alive

-

Danny Knight hailed his US Portsmouth under-18s as they moved to within a win of a dream FA Youth Cup first round proper date.

The USP young guns ran out 3-0 victors over National League Weymouth's Academy side at the Victory Stadium.

It means Didcot Town, who they travel to in a third qualifying round tie later this month, stand between USP and a potential massive first round date.

There they could draw Pompey or another EFL club.

Knight, leading a USP side in the FA Youth Cup for the first time in the club's history, was bursting with pride.

‘I’m chuffed to bits, they were really good,' he said.

‘They’re a funny bunch within reason, they really can match most teams locally.

‘You never know what you’re going to come up against, but they’re raising their game for this competition without a doubt.

‘We won’t have to give much of a team talk (against Didcot).

‘It's an easy one to get up for and I’m sure their manager will be saying the same.

‘At this level, it mainly comes down to who wants it more, who’s got the most desire and maybe a little bit of luck thrown in there.

‘At the end of the day we’re 90 minutes from potentially a massive game for us.

‘It’ll be a great occasion and good for the club.'

Jack Heath's tidy left-foot finish after 20 minutes set USP on the way to victory.

Toby Toman then headed home twice in the second half.
